This is not "what historic preservation is all about." This is what apologists for development do, and poor mitigation at best.

@Mizblueprint: The alternative to moving these houses is destruction. The university purchased these properties from private individuals at fair market value, they have worked with the city to follow all legal requirements. This is historic preservation...houses have been moved at Williamsburg, Charleston, Newport, New Orleans, and other cities across the country. No apologies at all!

This sounds like an amazing innovative. I always looks at houses as a living and breathing creatures. They all have a unique personality and feel to it, and there's nothing more cold and harsh than destroying houses and rebuilding them as a completely different thing.
